SHEETCAKE - for Five Pianos 

Here is "Sheetcake" by Michael Roth from Cal Poly Pomona Piano Ensemble's May 6 concert. This is one of the most fiercely difficult pieces the ensemble ever tackled. Thank you Michael for writing this very unique piece for us and for driving over 1 hour each way, often weekly, to work with us on it. This piece is appropriate in this volatile time. It's sarcastic, tragicomic, often violent, influenced by Samuel Beckett's "From An Abandoned Work" and Tina Fey. You will hear some rock and roll influences in it too. I perform "Sheetcake" here with my students Katie Bernardoni, Evan Huang, and Marina Zhang on pianos, Samuel Duong on toy piano, and Aiden Penry on bass guitar.
